And it Continues

March 13, 2007 / by blueallymissey

As a follow up to my previous article, I thought I would throw in the "new" developements happening in Russia. I harp on the issues over there because this does not only affect Russians but us as well.

Here is a brief synopsis of the story. If you would like it in full, all you have to do is google any news site...

Russian election manager ousted
By Richard Galpin
BBC News, Moscow

Mr Veshnyakov had been in post for eight years
Election commission head Alexander Veshnyakov has been removed as Russia gears up for parliamentary and presidential polls in the next year.

Mr Veshnyakov had spoken out against the dominance of the pro-Kremlin party, United Russia, which controls the national parliament.

Last weekend, it swept the board in a series of regional elections.

There has been no official explanation for Mr Veshnyakov's removal. He had run the commission for eight years.

He had overseen both presidential elections won by Vladimir Putin.

We learned a lot about Putin and Russia from a student we had from Finland. She visited us again the last two summers. It was interesting getting her perspective. Of course the Fins during WW2 really gave them a fight. And, they are the only country (Finland) to have paid the U.S. back its debt from the war. Finland has an intense distrust of Putin, and I understand why.
